Pet Super Collector, or "New Achievement? Unknown Reward"

So I'm at my brother's, waiting for our possessions to arrive in town, and catching up on the news I missed over at the best two sites ever, and it seems that MMO Champion has mined up a Special Vanity Pets achievement. No known reward, but considering the insane difficulty of these suckers, Sateena at WarcraftPets is hoping this might be the one to give us our long-awaited baby murloc.

Whether this achievement carries a hefty prize or not, getting this will be like the (new) Holy Grail of pet achieving. Take a look at the requirements:
  • Crimson Whelpling
  • Azure Whelpling
  • Emerald Whelpling
  • Darting Hatchling
  • Gundrak Hatchling
  • Ravasaur Hatchling
  • Razormaw Hatchling
  • Razzashi Hatchling
  • Chuck
  • Deviate Hatchling
  • Disgusting Oozeling
  • Hyacinth Macaw
  • Leaping Hatchling
  • Mojo
  • Scorchling
  • Toothy
  • Muckbreath
  • Snarly
The hardest grind will be, of course, the Hyacinth Macaw -- which I've talked about several times before as the rarest drop pet (1 in 5,000).

After that, Mojo and Razzashi Hatchling are level 60 & 70 raid drops and you'll need a grinding partner to farm them once a week (go for mounts in ZG while you're at it).

Scorchling is easier to get groups for but the boss who drops him is only available once a year, and I expect that'll be a headache for many come Midsummer.

The croc pets require a well-leveled fishing skill. Some people hate fishing. :*(

The rest are a result of time, effort, and sometimes money. Most of those pop up on the AH regularly (if not cheaply).

Good hunting.

  1. The recommended fishing level for SW/OG is 10. So you don't have to level it. And you get at least a 50% chance for a croc these days, if the quest is up.

For Mojo you need 5 persons to open the instance. But if you don't kill a boss, trash should respawn and you can extend your IDs with the new UI. You should be able to farm the trash with way less than 5 persons and way more often than once a week.

Scorchling is a sucker. I haven't even tried to get him this year because it sucks to farm something for 2 weeks and loose it to randoms. Now it seams like a requirement. :-)

Unfortunately, I don't know people on my server I could abuse to farm this. :-(

The macaw can be bought for 5k - 10k on the AH if your patient enough. This achievement might very well increase its price. So, get one as soon as possible if you haven't already.

And if 10k sounds expensive... you're probably farming 10k way faster than a macaw itself.

What's missing in the achievement is the glow worm from Zangarmarshes.

  2. *sigh* I guess I better get back to my two least favourite activities in game... farming and camping. >.> I tried farming for these pets in the past, but now I just scan the AH. I really really really don't like farming and camping. Really. :o(
I agree that the firefly should be there, and why isn't the phoenix hatchling on the list?
Dangit Blizz, for making me want to complete achievements!

  3. Scorchling will be my bane. I solo farmed for him at least twice a day (one normal, one heroic) for the entire duration of Midsummer 2009 to no avail (didn't see him once).

  4. Definitely the Macaw here... I have everything but that, 1 Hatchling, Toothy and Snarly, Mojo, and the Scorchling...

Gaeline has Mojo and the Scorchling... /cry
